Frequently Asked Questions

How does OnlyFactoryDirect sell High Quality Products at such Low Prices?

OnlyFactoryDirect was started out of the need to provide high quality audio products direct to the consumer. We have been based in the wholesale market for decades with contacts for high quality products from all over the world, OFD stepped out of the distribution chain from selling to other distributors and retail stores to directly selling to the consumer. This direct line from the factory to the consumer means lower prices while still maintaining high quality.

Who is Theater Solutions??

Theater Solutions is a fairly new company, yet the people who started Theater Solutions are not at all new to the audio industry. In the last few years many of the larger audio companies have been bought out and restructured. This sends many highly qualified executives and engineers to create their own new companies. Theater Solutions head engineer used to design speakers for JBL, which explains the high quality of their in wall and in ceiling speakers. Theater Solutions mainly concentrates on the huge hotel and industrial market. OnlyFactoryDirect's owner Mike just happens to be good friends with a co-owner of Theater Solutions and that is how we are able to sell these high quality speakers at such low prices. In turn we pass those savings on to our customers.

How do I install Theater Solutions In Wall and In Ceiling Speakers?

All of Theater Solutions speakers not only blow the popular name brands out of the water, but they are super simple to install. Every speaker has a unique dog legged design. Simply turn the screws in the front of the speaker, a leg in the back of the speaker flips out, moves down a special designed channel and holds tight to the inside of the drywall. It is that simple, no other hardware required. Simply cut the hole, plug in the wires, turn the screw and you are done!! OnlyFactoryDirect also carries rough in kits for all of Theater Solutions speakers. These kits are not needed for installation of the speakers, but they just make it easier for builders to leave a hole for these speakers while drywalling. The rough in kits have a hook to hold speaker wire and a lip to snug the drywall against. The plastic straps mount between studs before the drywall goes up.

Theater Solutions offers two different lines of in wall and in ceiling speakers, Kevlar and Symphony Series. What's the difference?

Theater Solutions Symphony Series are made with interlaced glass fiber. This glass fiber is just as rigid as kevlar, but lighter for better efficency and greater power handling. The Symphony Series speakers also have a + or - 3db switch on the front on the speaker to adjust the frequency to your rooms' acoustics. The acoustics of your room may vary due to the height of the ceiling, placement of furniture, amount of glass windows and other factors. The Kevlar speakers are great speakers, but the Symphony Series are simply better for home theaters and surround sound.

What is impedance and what should I know about speaker impedance?

A speaker's impedance rating refers to the amount of electrical resistance it presents against current flowing from your amplifier or receiver's powered outputs. Though impedance actually fluctuates as the speaker reproduces different frequencies, manufacturers usually publish a single, average figure, known as nominal impedance. Most home speakers have a nominal impedance rating of 8 ohms; likewise, practically all home A/V receivers are designed to be stable when pushing an 8-ohm load. There are a number of higher-end receivers that are capable of handling a 4-ohm load (if you're not sure about your receiver, check the specs in your owner's manual). Speakers with significantly lower impedance (4 ohms or less) may cause problems with 8-ohm receivers by asking them to deliver more current than they are capable of producing.

When you drop from an 8-ohm to a 4-ohm load, you cut the electrical resistance in half, which usually causes your receiver to increase its total power output. Some people are tempted to mate their 8-ohm receivers with 4-ohm speakers, in order to get more wattage. It's wise to avoid this temptation, since it can lead to greater distortion, and cause the receiver to run hot or activate its protection circuitry.

Where is the best place in my room to put a powered subwoofer?

The best answer is to experiment. You can start by placing your subwoofer in a corner reasonably close to either your listening/viewing position or the front speakers — the surrounding walls will automatically boost low-frequency output. Many audio/video enthusiasts are very satisfied with this solution. Another technique is to temporarily place the subwoofer in your listening spot, play some music, walk around the room, and listen. The spot that sounds best is where you should put the subwoofer.

For the best sound from my speakers, they need to be "in phase". What does that mean?

When your stereo speakers are connected in phase, the drivers of the left and right speaker move in and out at the same time. When they're out of phase, the drivers of the left speaker move in, while those of the right move out. If your speakers have removable grilles, you can pop them off and actually see this. Stereo speakers should always be connected in phase. Out-of-phase speakers sound "not quite right" — imaging is vague and there isn't as much bass. To hook up your speakers in phase, just make sure that your positive receiver (or amplifier) terminals are connected to the positive speaker terminals, and your negative receiver terminals are connected to your negative speaker terminals. It helps to pay attention to the markings on the wire — look for print, a stripe, or a rib that may be molded into the wire's jacket. If you find that your speakers are out of phase, don't worry, it's easy to fix. Just switch the positive and negative leads at one of your speakers (not both).

Who is Sycho Sound??

Very similar with what happened with Theater Solutions, Sycho Sound was started after a very popular car audio company was recently bought out. Several engineers left and started their own company. The head engineer of Sycho Sound is friends with OnlyFactoryDirect's general manager Randall and an agreement was reached to have OFD carry their high end car audio products at ridiculous low prices. Once again we extend those savings on to our customers.
